Why pair Square with Leal
- Square Loyalty is priced per location and hard to customise, while Leal stays flexible as you grow.
- Leal cards live in Apple Wallet and Google Wallet, so customers actually keep them.
- Your staff ring up sales exactly as before. Stamps happen automatically in the background.
Set up Square and Leal with Zapier
- 1
Get your Leal API key
In your Leal dashboard, open Settings and copy your API key. Zapier uses this to connect to your Leal account.
- 2
Create a Zap with the Square trigger
In Zapier, click Create Zap and choose Square as the trigger app with the New Payment event. Connect your Square account and select your location.
- 3
Add Leal's Find Customer action
Choose Leal as the action app and select Find Customer. Set External System to square and map Square's Customer ID field into External ID. Square payments do not carry email or phone, so this pairing is how Leal knows whose card to stamp.
- 4
Add Leal's Add Stamps action
Add a second Leal action using Add Stamps. Select your Loyalty Card, map the Customer from the Find Customer step, and leave Number of Stamps at 1 unless you want more per sale.
- 5
Test and turn on
Run a test payment in Square, check the stamp lands on the customer's card in Leal, then publish the Zap.

The exact mappings to set in the Zapier editor, using the real field names from the Leal and Square apps.

| Leal Find Customer: Customer ID | Leal Add Stamps: Customer | Map the result of the Find step into the Add Stamps step. |
| Your card in Leal | Leal Add Stamps: Loyalty Card | Pick the loyalty card to stamp. Number of Stamps defaults to 1. |
Good to know
- Leal's Find Customer matches by fuzzy search across name, email, phone, and card code, or exactly by External System plus External ID once a customer is linked.
- Leal's Create Customer needs a first name plus an email or phone, and its Send Card Links option delivers the Apple Wallet and Google Wallet links automatically.
- Leal's triggers fire instantly via webhooks, so Zaps on the Leal side run within seconds.
What you can automate
New payment adds a stamp
Every Square sale from a known customer moves their Leal card forward automatically.
New Square customer joins your program
A second Zap with Square's New Customer trigger and Leal's Create Customer action enrols first-time buyers, stores their Square Customer ID for future matching, and can send their wallet card link automatically with Send Card Links.
Reward redeemed pings your team
Leal's Reward redeemed trigger can post to Slack so staff celebrate regulars in the moment.
Frequently asked questions
Does Square work with Leal?
Yes. Square's official Zapier app connects to Leal, so a Square payment can automatically add a stamp to the customer's digital loyalty card. Setup takes about 15 minutes and needs no code.
Do I need Square Loyalty if I use Leal?
No. Leal replaces Square Loyalty. Square keeps handling payments and till operations while Leal handles stamp cards, rewards, and customer signups, usually at lower cost and with wallet passes included.
Will connecting Leal change how my staff use Square?
No. Staff ring up sales exactly as before. The Zapier connection runs in the background after each payment.
What does the Zapier connection cost?
Zapier has a free tier with 100 tasks per month, which covers quiet stores. Busier stores usually need a paid Zapier plan. Leal and Square are billed separately as normal.
